About This Project

Captain Leonard Destin Park is a 3.42 acre waterfront park designed to provide reliable public access for residents away from popular tourist spots. This park was designed with sustainability and conservation in mind by incorporating stormwater and nature-based solutions such as natural vegetation, stormwater retention ponds, pervious pavement, and a Heron Rookery Protection Zone. Captain Leonard Destin Park is named after the founder of the City of Destin and highlights the unique history of the city’s heritage.

This park was built in a joint effort between the City of Destin, Trust for Public Land, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection using oil spill restoration funding from the Deepwater Horizon settlement.
